Rev. Dr. H. Walden
Wilson, II: A Legacy of Vision and Service

Reverend Dr. Harlie Walden Wilson, II, has faithfully served as the fifth pastor of Israel Baptist Church since 1978, bringing transformative leadership and a visionary approach to ministry. A native of Southampton County, Virginia, Reverend Wilson earned his academic credentials, including a Doctor of Divinity from Virginia Seminary and College. He began his pastoral journey at several churches across Virginia before being called to lead Israel Baptist Church, where his dynamic leadership has left an indelible mark on the congregation and the East Baltimore community.

Under Reverend Wilson’s leadership, Israel Baptist Church has grown into a thriving spiritual hub, now serving over 3,000 members. He has guided the church through significant milestones, including the unification of Israel Baptist Church and Wayland Baptist Church after 78 years of division. His visionary projects include the construction of a state-of-the-art 1,500-seat sanctuary in 2004, designed to minister holistically to the "total" man, woman, and child. This sanctuary stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to fostering community and providing a space where lives can be transformed through faith.

Reverend Wilson has also pioneered numerous innovative ministries, including the Substance Abuse Ministry Program, the Lott Carey Foreign Mission, and an expansive Youth Ministry that engages over 200 young participants in worship, education, and leadership development. Recognizing the power of outreach, he established the Mattie B. Uzzle Outreach Center, which houses a shelter for the homeless, a soup kitchen, and support programs for those in need. These ministries reflect his belief that to truly serve God, the church must extend its reach beyond the sanctuary walls.

In recent years, Reverend Wilson has continued to lead with boldness and innovation. The church’s radio broadcasts, outdoor tent worship services, and street prayer meetings have brought the gospel to hundreds of people, including those battling addiction and despair. Through his "Sanctuary Without Walls" initiative, Reverend Wilson has demonstrated that faith can bring light to even the darkest corners of the community. His leadership during challenging times, including the pandemic, has showcased his adaptability and commitment to ensuring that the church remains a beacon of hope.

Today, Reverend Wilson remains a respected voice in ministry, frequently featured in national and local media and invited to speak at events across the globe. His boundless energy and dedication have solidified Israel Baptist Church as a pillar of faith and service. With every new initiative, he continues to inspire the congregation and community to strive toward the high calling of God. Reverend Wilson's legacy is one of vision, determination, and a profound love for God’s people—a legacy that will resonate for generations to come.
